Maddie: Amaral support movement launches petition on the Internet

The movement “Citizens support Gonçalo Amaral”, the former Judiciária inspector who investigated the “Madeleine McCann” case, has informed today, Saturday, that it has placed two petitions online to deliver to the Portuguese Parliament, the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights.

In a press release, the “Citizens support Gonçalo Amaral” movement indicates that it has already placed two petitions on the internet and that the goal is to “support the constitutional right to Freedom of Expression, exercised in a responsible manner and without any other limits except those defined by law”.

“The first initiative by this movement is to place two petitions online – one for Portuguese citizens and foreigners that reside in Portugal, another one for foreign citizens, which we intend to submit, respectively, to the Portuguese Parliament, the European Parliament and the European Court of Human Rights”, reads the press release that was sent to the media today.

The movement “Citizens support Gonçalo Amaral” has appeared after the creation of a website that is titled “Project Justice Gonçalo Amaral”, whose purpose is to “return Freedom of Expression” to the former Polícia Judiciária inspector.

According to the movement, Gonçalo Amaral “has not done more than to publish, in a book, the report of a criminal investigation: a report that is based on facts and on the conclusions of an entire, vast team of investigators, as clearly results from the process itself, which has been made public already”.

Gonçalo Amaral’s book, “Maddie, the truth about the lie”, was published in 2008, but in September this year the Civil Court of Lisbon prohibited the sale of the book, whose subject is the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.

Madeleine McCann disappeared on the 3rd of May 2007, from the room where she was sleeping with her two younger twin siblings, in an apartment at the “Ocean Club” tourist resort in Praia da Luz.

On the 7th of September 2007, the child’s mother, Kate, and the father, Gerry McCann, were made arguidos.

Nonetheless, the authorities have never been able to establish was really happened to Madeleine McCann, and on the 21st of July 2008, the Attorney General’s Office announced the closing of the investigation and the archiving of suspicions against Gerry and Kate McCann.

The McCann family demands the payment of a compensation of at least 1.2 million euros from the former PJ inspector, over his statements about Madeleine’s disappearance, that are considered to be defamatory.

The movement for Gonçalo Amaral warns that “other actions will follow, always with the purpose of supporting the “constitutional right to Freedom of Expression”.

Maddie: Movimento de apoio a Amaral lança petição na Net

O movimento "Cidadãos apoiam Gonçalo Amaral", ex-inspector da Judiciária que investigou o caso "Madeleine McCann", informou hoje, sábado, que colocou duas petições online para entregar na Assembleia da República, Parlamento Europeu e no Tribunal Europeu dos Direitos do Homem.

Em comunicado de imprensa, o movimento "Cidadãos apoiam Gonçalo Amaral" indica que já colocou duas petições na Internet e que o objectivo é "apoiar o direito constitucional à Liberdade de Expressão, exercida de forma responsável e sem outros limites que não sejam os definidos na lei".

"A primeira iniciativa deste movimento consistiu em colocar duas petições online - uma destinada a cidadãos portugueses e estrangeiros residentes em Portugal, outra destinada a cidadãos estrangeiros, que pretendemos submeter, respectivamente, à Assembleia da República, ao Parlamento Europeu e ao Tribunal Europeu dos Direitos do Homem", lê-se na nota de imprensa enviada hoje à comunicação social.

O movimento "Cidadãos apoiam Gonçalo Amaral" surgiu depois da criação de um sítio na Internet intitulado "Projecto Justiça Gonçalo Amaral" e que tem o intuito de "restituir a Liberdade de Expressão" ao ex-inspector da Polícia Judiciária.

Segundo o movimento, Gonçalo Amaral "mais não fez do que publicar, em livro, o relato de uma investigação criminal: um relato baseado em factos, que traduz as conclusões de toda uma extensa equipa de investigadores, como resulta claro do próprio processo, já tornado público".

O livro de Gonçalo Amaral, "Maddie, a verdade da mentira", foi publicado em 2008, mas em Setembro deste ano o Tribunal Cível de Lisboa proibiu a venda do livro, cujo tema é o desaparecimento de Madeleine McCann.

Madeleine McCann desapareceu a 03 de Maio de 2007 do quarto onde dormia juntamente com os dois irmãos gémeos, mais novos, num apartamento do aldeamento turístico "Ocean Club", na Praia da Luz.

A 7 de Setembro de 2007, a mãe da criança, Kate, e o pai, Gerry McCann, foram constituídos arguidos.

As autoridades, contudo, nunca conseguiram apurar o que realmente aconteceu a Madeleine McCann e a 21 de Julho de 2008, a Procuradoria-Geral da República anunciou o encerramento da investigação e o arquivamento das suspeitas contra Gerry e Kate McCann.

A família McCann exige o pagamento de uma indemnização de pelo menos 1,2 milhões de euros ao ex-inspector da PJ pelas suas declarações consideradas difamatórias a propósito do desaparecimento de Madeleine.

O movimento pró Gonçalo Amaral avisa que "outras acções se seguirão, sempre com o objectivo de apoiar o "direito constitucional à Liberdade de Expressão".

Gonçalo Amaral recibe apoyo en Internet

El ex inspector de la PJ está recibiendo el apoyo de los ciudadanos que quieren llevar ante la Asamblea de la República y el Parlamento Europeo una petición en su defensa

Llevar ante la Asamblea de la República y el Parlamento Europeo un texto en defensa de Gonçalo Amaral es el objetivo de la petición “Proyecto Justicia para Gonçalo Amaral”, iniciada por un grupo de ciudadanos que apoya al ex coordinador de la PJ.

La petición ya cuenta con más de medio centenar de firmas, en su mayoría de portugueses y deberá ser entregada al Parlamento (portugués), al Parlamento Europeo y al Tribunal Europeo de Derecho Humanos.

La petición también ha sido lanzada en inglés y ya cuenta con 206 firmas.

Gonçalo Amaral Receives Support on the Internet

The former PJ Inspector is receiving support of citizens who want to take to the Portuguese Parliament and to the European Parliament a text in his defense.

Taking to the Portuguese Parliament and to the European Parliament a text in defense of Gonçalo Amaral is the objective of the petition «Projecto Justiça para Gonçalo Amaral», organized by a group of citizens who support the former PJ coordinator.

The petition already has more than fifty signatories, mostly Portuguese, and will be delivered to the Portuguese Parliament, to the European Parliament and to the European Court of Human Rights.


The petition was also released in English and already has 206 signatures.
